Company History

The National Buying Company (NBC) was formed on the basis of acknowledging that the past cannot

be ignored. Prior to 1964 till present informal retailers have fallen victim to the abuse of larger players

in the industry. This misfortune has left them with little room to compete and defend themselves. As a

result they remain pitiful and disrespected. The National Buying Company (NBC) has found strength

in their numbers and is dedicated to dignifying their efforts in servicing their communities, as they

rightfully should.

Mission

To be the first and the biggest black bulk-buying organisation in South Africa

Vision 2014

To have the majority of black retailers buying through NBC with a combined buying power of at least

1billion rand.

Objectives

· To establish an identity for member stores

· Create marketing opportunities,

· Train black retailers for excellence,

· To assist both emerging manufactures and farmers in entering the market,

· To defend our members from foreign invaders as well as the shopping centres that invade their

trading areas

· To establish a negotiating power for black retailers.

Company Overview

NBC runs a centralized account for all its members from an administrative office in Rivonia. This office

coordinates the buying of its national members. Members enjoy the benefit of placing orders through

NBC and receiving the administrative advantage of formal training, discount purchases, an identity,

marketing and merchandising opportunities, deliveries directly to their stores and being part of a

national structure.
