South African Leisure Tourism & Hospitality (SALTHA)

SALTHA was founded in the year of 1978, its aim being to lobby Government to recognize Shebeeners, as legimate business; then formerly know as the National Tavernier’s Association (NTA), with its main aspiration to acquire Trading Licenses for Taverners. The first license was issued in 1982. In 1993 the NTA was transformed and reinvented as the South African Liquor Trader’s Association (SALTA), which played a vital role in the shaping of the Liquor Act regulation in the country.
In 2003, SALTHA’s council meeting resolved to yet again broaden the scope by becoming the main role player in developing leisure and tourism in the country, hence the name South African Leisure Tourism & Hospitality. SALTHA is an affiliate of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NAFCOC) a founder member of Business Unity of South Africa (BUSA) a member of TEP and affiliated to Tourism business council of South Africa (TBCSA).

National Industrial Chamber  (NIC)
In the 1970s NAFCOC formed several committees to address the challenges brought about by the draconian apartheid laws. One of such committees, known as the "Industrial Committee" was created in 1977 to evaluate and make recommendations on small-scale manufacturing and related services. Popular demand then grew for the creation of an autonomous body, under the general umbrella of NAFCOC that would specifically focus on the needs and interests of small-scale manufacturers. The formation of the National Industrial Chamber (NIC) in 1990 was the synthesis of this passion. From then on, the NIC was to become the rallying voice of the previously disadvantaged class of small-scale manufacturers and service providers.
